Summer is the time to slow down: to enjoy the outdoors, connect with friends and just get away… unless you’re involved with cheer, or any serious sport, for that matter. When you’re in the thick of being a parent of an athlete, there isn’t always time – or money- for any kind of “real” summer vacation. But that doesn’t mean that you have to spend the summer confined to boring routines and same’ole, same’ole. Here are some affordable ways to enjoy your summer:
SWIMPLY
Having a heat wave, but don’t have access to a pool? Enter, Swimply. It’s like AirBnB for pools. You can rent time at a private pool! Some even have full grills and hot tubs. Get your family and friends together, and enjoy some private pool time.
AIRBNB IN YOUR OWN TOWN
Speaking of AirBnB, how fun would it be to rent one locally? This is a great way to get away from the day-to-day and the chores of the house. Plus, you’ll still be able to drive to and from that 3-day choreography session and still be on a great getaway!
WATCH ALL THE MOVIES IN A SERIES
If the outdoors aren’t your thing, watch movies. One summer, we got through all the (relevant) movies in the Marvel series. It was so much fun. Iron Man is the best Avenger. I’ll fight you.
BE A TOURIST IN YOUR OWN CITY
Explore your city, or a city nearby. Visit a local resort, find the best coffee shops, the best ice cream, or the top restaurants in your local area. Find your Chamber of Commerce or City website and find a festival or activity happening. This past summer we found the cutest event called the Ducky Derby in our town!
CAMP IN YOUR BACK YARD
The most affordable way to enjoy your summer: Set up a tent, build a fire, cook some s’mores and play some good camping music. Maybe even set up a kiddie pool and act like it’s the lake? It’s worth a try.
INSTAGRAM LOCATIONS
This could be part of being a tourist in your own city, but since we’re cheer enthusiasts and therefor picture enthusiasts, it deserves its own section. Google “Instagram walls near <your city>” and see what pops up. You’ll find the coolest places, and you can do your own little photo shoot with your phones. See my tips on the apps I use to create awesome photos.
There you have it. These are just a few affordable ways to enjoy your summer. How do you enjoy your summer, with all the cheer costs and busy schedules?
