It’s cheer competition day. The excitement, the nerves, the culmination of all the hard work and hours put into practice ….not to mention the hair pulling, the yelling, and the enormous amount of Starbucks needed to get through the day. The athletes have their uniforms, but what exactly are cheer moms supposed to wear to competitions? Here are my staple items:

SUPPORTIVE FOOTWEAR
I don’t care if you walk into that venue stark naked, as long as you’re supporting your feet well! I mean, security might have an issue with the naked part, but at least your feet won’t hurt.
Apolla Socks are a GAME. CHANGER.
I was recently introduced to compression socks, and I have to admit, I thought they were just for old people. However, as it turns out, some of the coolest people I know, including Coach Monica Aldama, swear by compression socks. Intrigued, I decided to try them out for myself and that’s when I found Apolla socks. Let me tell you, they are a game-changer. The support and comfort they provide is unbelievable; it seriously feels like someone is holding your feet as you walk. I can’t say enough good things about them! Don’t be afraid of the pricing…they are worth every single penny for you AND your athlete. If you use code: CHEERMOM2024 at checkout, you’ll get 10% off.
When it comes to shoes, I really love these shoes from Amazon. They feel like you’re walking on a cloud. Seriously; I wore these puppies all through Jamfest one year and my feet didn’t hurt ONCE in three days! I even bought a second pair in another color after I felt how great they worked.
If you need additional ankle support, these Nike AF1 high tops tend to be another go-to for me.
LEGGINGS
You’ll almost never see me wearing real pants to a cheer competition. My criteria for the perfect leggings at a cheer competition are as follows:
- Must be high wasted
- Must be soft
- Must have pockets
Forget just about any pair of leggings you’ve ever owned, because this US-based, FEMALE OWNED athletic brand is going to blow you away. My new absolute favorite leggings come from Senita Athletics. No, seriously…I have tried just about every pair of leggings under the sun, and these are IT. They don’t bunch or slide, they’re comfortable, and the quality is amazing. SPIRIT WEAR
Every cheer mom should have at least one piece of “spirit wear.” This includes anything that has your team name or gym logo. The larger gyms will have a whole shop or online store dedicated to hoodies, t-shirts, hats, sweaters, and anything you can think of. Some are blinged-out and some are clean and simple, so you get to choose according to your style!
Don’t have a spirit shop? Ask your gym owner or director for the gym or team logo and have some made! It’s always fun to see parents all decked out in their spirit wear when you look over at the VIP section.
LAYER UP
Even when it’s warm outside, you never know what those venues will be like, so layer up! My favorite is to tie a flannel around my waste, wear this puffy vest from Amazon, or both!
ACCESSORIZE
Call me excessive, but there are a few “extras” that I love when it comes to sassing up my look on competition day:
Themed nail color
Jewelry to match our team or gym colors (check out these accessories from The Cheer Collection!)
Backpack or fanny pack (to keep all those emergency items!)
