After 9 seasons in cheer, we’ve done our share of traveling. I’ve seen all kinds of exotic and exciting places, like Columbus, Ohio, and Orlando, Florida. I’m basically a woman of the world.
I’ve learned a few things along the way, either from learning the hard way or getting amazing advice from fellow cheer moms. Whether you’re going to Florida for a post-season competition or anywhere away from home for cheerleading, Here are three of my favorite tips:
Plan for LOTS of extra time to get from place to place.
Look at Google Maps and see how long it will take to get from your hotel to the competition or practice venue. Then double it. Triple it for bigger competitions. The worst kind of stress is the unnecessary stress that comes with running late because of traffic or crowds.
Comfort is Queen
Wear comfortable shoes and clothes. I tried looking “cute” for a 12 hour cheer competition day. It did NOT go well for me. Even with limited capacity and limited time because of health restrictions this year, chances are that competition days will be long and there will be lots of walking. Make sure you’re plenty comfortable.
Bring a portable phone charger
I don’t know about you, but all the pictures and videos I take at cheer competitions absolutely drain my phone! A portable phone charger is essential. I’ve LOVED this charger lately!
Whatever adventurous places your cheer travels take you, may your walking be short, your athlete not be moody, and your team’s routine, flawless.
